Sunday scoreboard: Redbird women hold off Valpo

VALPARAISO, Ind. – Valparaiso cut into a 17-point deficit early in the second half, but Illinois State women’s basketball held on for a 70-67 win on Sunday afternoon at Athletics-Recreation Center.

The host Crusaders (6-15, 2-7 Missouri Valley Conference) hit 13 three-pointers, led by six from Allison Schofield for a team-high 22 points. Grace Hales added 21 points for Valpo.

Illinois State (11-9, 4-5) was paced by Simone Goods with 30 points. Kayel Newland added 11 points.

The Redbirds host Evansville on Friday at 7 p.m. and Indiana State on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the annual Play4Kay game to raise funds and awareness for women’s cancers through the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
