OBITUARY: Delmar Ray Hunter

Delmar Ray Hunter, 86 of Bloomington, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Heritage Manor, Bloomington.

Delmar’s service will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 10am at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington with Pastor Robert Phillips officiating.

Military Honors will be conducted at the funeral home by the Bloomington/Normal American Legion. Following the service burial will be held at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019 from 2-5pm at the funeral home and also an hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Delmar was born on June 14, 1932 in Bloomington. He is the son of Harry William and Gladys Reeves Hunter. He is survived by his sister; Ruth Hunter, Bloomington; nephew; Jesse (Arlene) Hunter, Guthrie, OK, great nephew; Timothy (Jennifer) Hunter, Edmond, OK; great niece; Amy (Gregory) Darling, Pekin, IL; 2 great-great nephews and 2 great-great nieces. He is also survived by 3 cousins; Barbara Black, Solon, OH; Norma Mitchell, Bloomington, IN and Larry (Helen) Osborne, Chicago, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Lyle Hunter; sister-in-law, Betty Hunter; a niece, Julie Ann Hunter and 2 cousins; Carl Black and William Mitchell Delmar graduated from Normal Community High School in 1950, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Commerce and Social Studies from LaSalle Extension University in 1979. He attended Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan University. He worked at State Farm Insurance Company for over 40 years, retiring in 1994 as an underwriter specialist in the State Fire and Casualty Co. He was a charter member of Eastview Christian Church, Normal and the New Horizon Christian Church, Heyworth, IL where he served as an elder and finance and building chairman and was a member of the LeRoy Country Club and Area Men’s Christian Fellowship. He enjoyed playing golf, gardening, traveling, sightseeing and spending winters in Florida with his sister Ruth.
