James Prodehl (Duffy-Pils Memorial Home)

James Prodehl

BLOOMINGTON – James R. Prodehl, 81, of Bloomington; beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal; with his family by his side. There were so many rejoicing to receive him into heaven. There are so very many who will miss him until we too can again be joined with him.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of Jim’s life will be 11 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Chenoa Baptist Church, Chenoa; with Pastor Jefferson Williams officiating. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa is in charge of arrangements.  Those wishing to make memorial contributions may direct them to Chenoa Baptist Church, Chenoa.

Jim was born May 4, 1937 in Joliet, the son of Raymond and Blanche (Allen) Prodehl.  He married Lona Reedy on June 6, 1956. That union brought forth three much loved children, Janice, Lawrence and Christine. He later married Deborah (Hoover) Adams on October 24, 1998. That union brought forth two step sons, Brett and Ben and a magnificent German Shepherd, Cage.  Survivors include his wife, Deborah, his children, step sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren and Lona, a much beloved sister, Pat Wilmoth, who was especially close to Jim and mourns his passing immeasurably.

Preceding him in death were his sisters, Janet, Arlene, Jean, Betty, Shirley and a brother, Raymond, step-son, Ben Adams. His best friend on this earth, his brother in-law, Darrel P. Wilmoth also preceded Jim in death. The two of them could build anything and did.  They were excellent carpenters.  Jim was a master of precision in wood working.  Two of Jim’s fishing buddies, Ron & Bob, greeted Jim as he arrived in heaven.  May you forever swap fishing tales and again engage in fishing in heaven.

Jim’s long career with Caterpillar began as a machine shop apprentice in data technology and progressed to traveling the world for Caterpillar in Information Technology.  Jim was instrumental in the founding of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at University of Illinois.  Jim had high level involvement in Guide, an IBM mainframe user’s group at Caterpillar before his retirement.  Jim had a very strong work ethic and his philosophy was that if you were dissatisfied with your current position, you worked harder at being promoted or redirected.  More than anything Jim accomplished in his career with Caterpillar, Jim was first a father, husband, grandfather and grounded soul.  He never allowed his successful career and his status to corrode his character.  He enjoyed contributing to the happiness of others.  I Love You Jim. I always will.

The family enjoyed many years at their cottage on Big Sand Lake in Wisconsin.  The memories are forever inscribed on our hearts. Jim loved to fish and was a good teacher and example to his children and grandchildren on safety of the lake.  Jim’s voice was soft and his heart was large.  Jim loved to read, and patronized both the Bloomington and Phelps, WI; public libraries frequently.

Jim died on Deb’s birthday, October 12th. His gift to Deb was to see him suffer no more.  Jim knew Deb loved snow. At noon on October 12th big fluffy flakes of snow started and continued until late afternoon.  Jim was telling Deb he had arrived in heaven and sent her his gift, the snow that she loved.

The family extends much gratitude to Advocate BroMenn Hospice, Home Care and staff and many thanks to Dr. Hoschek and Nurse Joy for the care given to Jim.  Ethel what would I have done without you?  You are my angel on earth.  Only Ethel Regenold would arrive at my house at 3:30 a.m. and stay with me the duration. Pastor Jeff, Jim loved you. Last but not least, Jim loved Denver omelets at the Green Garden after church on Sunday.

Online condolences and guestbook for the family are available at www.duffypilsmemorialhome.com.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

By Mike Matejka Because of COVID, there is no Labor Day Parade this year.  It’s always a great event for our everyday workers to march proudly down the street and enjoys the festive crowd. If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
