Week 7 of the high school football season presents a match-up of 4-2 teams driving toward possible playoff berths.

Bloomington (4-2, 3-2 Big Twelve) hosts Peoria Notre Dame (4-2, 4-2) in the featured game of the WJBC Friday Night High School Football Extravaganza. BHS coach Scott Godfrey said the Irish offense will challenge his Purple Raiders.

“We’re going to see a unique offense in that Wing-T double wing that we don’t see really ever in our conference,” Godfrey said. “It’s tough to replicate, it’s tough to prepare for in one week, so it gives us a challenge for our defense.”

The Purple Raiders are coming off of a loss to rival Normal Community last week, but Godfrey said the team hasn’t changed its approach.

“We got into the film room on Monday and put the (Normal) Community game away,” Godfrey said. “Now we’ve got to move on and live in the now. This week right now the only that’s important is PND and coming out and playing well.”

The other four Intercity teams are included in the Extravaganza as Normal Community (5-1, 5-0 Big Twelve) hosts Danville (3-3, 2-3), Rantoul (1-5) visits Central Catholic (0-6), Normal West (5-1, 4-1 Big Twelve) takes on Peoria Manual (0-6, 0-5) at Peoria Stadium and U-High (1-5) heads to Central State Eight Conference leader Chatham Glenwood (6-0).

The Extravaganza begins at 6:10 p.m. Friday on AM 1230 WJBC and with updates every quarter hour and postgame until 11 p.m. Updates can be found on the WJBC Sports Twitter feed (@SportsWJBC, #WJBCHSFB).

WJBC Voices: Celebrating local workers

By Mike Matejka Labor Day is perhaps the most mis-understood holiday in the nation’s calendar.  Traditionally viewed as a summer’s end celebration, its real roots are in worker protest, trying to claim and celebrate their role in society. In Bloomington, local unions organize and march together, along with community groups and aspiring politicians, in Monday’s…
