Obituary: Davis

BLOOMINGTON – Shirley A. Davis, 87 of Bloomington, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Martin Health Center, Bloomington.

Shirley’s service will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Grace Church, Normal with Pastor Len Thebarge officiating. Following the service, burial will be held at East Lawn Mausoleum in Bloomington. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Monday at the church.

The family suggests memorials to be made to Grace Church, 1311 W. Hovey, Normal, IL 61761 or Parkinson’s Foundation.

Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley was born on March 31, 1931 in Rushville, Ill. She is the daughter of Roland C. and Mary A. (Asher) Pollock. She married Robert L. Davis on June 18, 1954 in Roodhouse, IL. He preceded her in death on December 28, 1992.

Shirley is survived by her children; Elizabeth (Stan) Hitzeman, Carmel, Ind.; Kathy (Jim) Schaffer, Oswego, Ill.; James (Lauren) Davis, Downers Grove, Ill. and John Davis, Skokie, Ill. along with 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, John Pollock.

Shirley graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University. She taught music in elementary schools in Hoopeston, Ill.. She was a homemaker and taught piano privately for 27 years. She was the church organist in several churches. She was a member of Grace Church and Zeta Eta Alumni Chapter of Delta Omicron music sorority.

Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
