Senior-related bills signed at Illinois State Fair

SPRINGFIELD – Gov. Rauner used Senior Day at the Illinois State Fair to sign a pair of senior-related bills into law.

One establishes a broadband advisory council.

“This will all dovetail together,” Rauner said in an announcement outside the Governor’s Tent. “We want to expand Internet access, high-speed wireless capability, broadband capability, everywhere in the state of Illinois. Every community, every school, every seniors’ facility. Every home, every residence. We want that capability everywhere.”

As a first-time grandpa whose grandchild is on the West Coast, Rauner can appreciate the need for the Internet for seniors.

The other bill the governor signed makes the state ID card free and permanent for seniors.
