CHAMPAIGN – A University of Illinois student was wounded in what authorities said was an officer-involved shooting in Champaign.

A U-of-I news release said two campus police officers and a Champaign County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a citizen’s call of a man loading a semiautomatic handgun.

Police reportedly found the armed man, and all three officers fired at him when he refused to drop the gun.

Police say the 23-year old student was shot in the leg. Officers provided first aid, and he apparently suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Illinois State Police are investigating the shooting.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
