LaCROSSE, Wis. – For the second time in three years, senior Amelia Glueck is the long jump champion in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field championships and senior Karly Goodman used a school-record throw to finish second in the nation in the javelin.

On day one of the 2018 championships at Wisconsin-Lacrosse’s Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex, IWU has 18 points and trails only Washington U. in first with 19.

Glueck, the winner in 2016 and fifth place finisher last year, had a school-record leap of 19 – 10 1/4 on her first attempt of the day that easily held up as the event winner. Glueck set the previous IWU outdoor mark of 19-9 in the 2016 NCAA meet.

Seeded No. 13 in the javelin coming into the national meet, Goodman’s second throw of the day of 144-0 1/2 was second to the toss of Pacific Lutheran’s Macahela Gaddy at 150-3 1/4.

Earlier in the day, Titan senior Victoria Drake finished 18th in 10,000 meter run with a time of 38:39.17. That race was moved to earlier in the day to beat midday heat expected in LaCrosse, Wis.

Goodman will compete again at 1 p.m. Friday in the shot put and at 2 p.m. Saturday in the hammer throw. Also on Friday at 2 p.m., 2016 high jump champion Molly McGraw will compete in the high jump.

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
