NORMAL – After leading Illinois State to a victory in the regular season finale, the Missouri Valley Conference has named Simone Goods as its Newcomer of the Week for women’s basketball for the third time.

Goods recorded 25 points, six rebounds and two blocks in the Redbirds’ 53-41 win at Bradley on Saturday. Goods, a junior forward from Omaha, has scored 20 or more points six times this season.

Saturday’s win pushed the Redbirds out of the Thursday play-in games at the Valley tournament with the sixth seed for the first time in five years. Illinois State (14-15) will faced third seed Northern Iowa at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Taxslayer Center in Moline.

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
