Doug Hanson
Douglas K. Hanson, 84 of Bloomington, passed away on Friday, Feb. 16, 2018 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
Doug’s service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington with Pastor Paul Stroup officiating. Following the service burial will be held at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Second Presbyterian Church Choir.
Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
Doug was born on April 25, 1933 in Bloomington. He is the son of Howland and Ruby (Nafziger) Hanson. He married Andrea Moore on June 7, 1953 at the Stanford Presbyterian Church, Stanford, Ill.
He is survived by his wife Andrea of 64 wonderful years, their children; Shelley (Bob) Hanson Loy, John (Cheryl) Hanson and Joe (Leslie) Hanson all of Bloomington, 13 grandchildren; Wendy (Paul) Schiaras, Patrick Reed (Lisa), Sislye (Keith) Crow, Andrea Soper, Andrew Loy, Amy (Greg) Demas, Allison (Chris) Maute, Eddie (Jackie) Hanson, Ben Hanson, Emily (Brix) Byers, Abbey (financee Dan Zummo) Hanson, Jacob Hanson and Connor Hanson, seven great grandchildren, a special niece Teri (Steve) Parker and nephews Rod Walker, Steve (Vanessa) Walker, and Randy (Mary) Walker: and brother-in-law, Don Walker.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, and a grandson.
Doug graduated from Stanford High School. He attended Illinois State Normal University and graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Education. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. He worked as a district manager for Funk Seeds and Northrup King Seeds, later known as Syngenta Seed Company. He also worked as an Insurance Agent for Country Companies. In 1974, Doug and Andrea opened “One Hour Martinizing” later known as Hanson’s Cleaners. After retiring from the agriculture industry, Doug remained active working alongside his sons at Hanson’s Cleaners until it is closing after 42 years of serving Bloomington-Normal. Doug was very proud supporting his sons at the dry cleaners.
Doug was a member of Second Presbyterian Church of Bloomington where he served as an Elder and sang in the choir for 50+ years. He was a member of the Masons, AARP Farm Bureau and was an avid University of Illinois fan and lifetime member of the Ilini Booster Club.
Doug was a friendly and loving person who never knew a stranger. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a faithful man committed to his family, friends and church. His kindness and love lives through his family. He will be truly missed and loved by them all.
