BLOOMINGTON – Making kids feel loved and celebrated is the goal of a program receiving a one thousand dollar grant from Youth Engaged in Philanthropy.

In its second year, the Child Protection Network’s Permanency Bags for Kids program celebrates a newly adopted child with a bag full of goodies – such as toys, personal items, and private documents.

Samantha Stevenson, Director of Development for the Child Protection Network says it is the first time a lot of the children have something to call something their own.

“I think that this is kind of a celebration for them,” Stevenson said. “A lot of times their CASA volunteer has been with this child for the last two years and it’s just a nice parting gift for them and hopefully to carry them over into their new happy, healthy home.”

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
