Marilyn Yates

Marilyn L. Yates, 76 of Bloomington, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 with her daughter by her side.

Marilyn’s service will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. Following the service, burial will be held at the McLean Cemetery, McLean, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to The Rotary Foundation (One Rotary Center, 1560 Sherman Avenue, Evanston, Illinois 60201) or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn was born on February 4, 1942 in Evergreen Park, Illinois. She is the daughter of Joseph and Louise (Huss) Murray. She married Jan Fredrick Yates on November 16, 1985 in Heyworth. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2006.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter; Dorothy (Joe) Mikulecky of Bloomington, her granddaughter; Megan (Kelly) Zuber of Lubbock, TX and a great grandson; Keegan Zuber. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter; Mary Jo Vercellino and 2 brothers; Jim and Larry Murray.

Marilyn was a member of the school board of District 146 in Tinley Park and was credited for bringing in the first learning disability program to the District and was instrumental in advocating for the building of Grissom Jr. High School. She also was a member of the Fernway Home Owners Association where she showed her love for kids by instituting a weekly school dance program for the junior high kids and helped organize the construction of a new park in Fernway subdivision. Marilyn also supported Rotary International and is a Paul Harris Fellow.

Marilyn enjoyed the outdoors especially gardening and landscape design. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family at their farm in Danvers IL and enjoying antiquing, auctions, and restoring Ford Model T cars with the love of her life, her husband.

She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.
