UPDATED: Murdered Bloomington woman suffered multiple stab wounds

BLOOMINGTON – The McLean County Coroner said the victim of a reported domestic violence killing Monday near Downtown Bloomington died from multiple stab wounds.

Her husband is jailed awaiting to be formally charged with the woman’s death.

Coroner Kathy Davis identified the victim as Nicole Elbert, 30, of Bloomington. An autopsy was performed Tuesday.

Bloomington Police arrested Monroe Elbert, 50, of the 600 block of N. McLean St. on initial charges of murder and aggravated battery to a child.

Police say they were called to the McLean Street address about 2:35 p.m. by a man claiming he had just killed his wife.

Officers say they found the unresponsive woman inside the home and arrested Monroe Elbert at the scene.

The murder victim’s friends have started a GoFundMe page online to help with funeral expenses and care for her five children.
