LINCOLN – A woman was killed in Logan County on Wednesday night in a two-car crash that tied up traffic in Interstate 55 for more than five hours overnight.

A 22-year-old woman was killed after a car traveling south on I-55 west of Lincoln left the road, traveled through the median and struck her northbound vehicle at about 9 p.m. The woman’s name hasn’t been released. Police say the other driver, 26-year-old Adriana Rodriguez of Wenona, was taken to Memorial Hospital in Springfield with minor injuries. Illinois State Police say she’s been charged with improper lane usage and not having insurance.

State Police said traffic was restricted in the northbound lanes until shortly before 2:30 a.m.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
