BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington Thunder goaltender Logan Halladay has been named CCM/USHL Co-Goaltender of the Week after backstopping Bloomington to a weekend sweep of the Youngtown Phantoms this past weekend.

With the pair of wins this past weekend, the Thunder (7-6-2-0, 16 pts) have now won a season-high four straight games, and Halladay has played a big part in that winning streak. The Merrimack College commit has started in each of the four games and allowed just five goals in that stretch to help him tie his personal best with four consecutive wins.

In addition to allowing just five goals over his last four starts, Halladay has posted a .950 save percentage and a 1.25 save percentage in that time span. This past weekend was the highlight of the four-game stretch, as Halladay yielded two total goals and made 46 saves total between the 3-1 and 4-1 victories over Youngstown.

Halladay’s busiest night of work this past weekend came on Saturday, as he stopped 15 shots in the first period alone on the way to 27 total saves for the game. In the series opener on Friday night, Halladay turned aside 19 shots in the 3-1 win. Through 11 games this season, Halladay has compiled a 5-4-1-0 record with a 2.26 goals-against-average and a .922 save percentage.

Halladay is the first Thunder player to receive a weekly award this season. It is the second career weekly honor for the Cary, North Carolina, native who was also named USHL Goaltender of the Week on Jan. 4 of last season following back-to-back shutouts.

Bloomington aims to continue the four-game winning streak this weekend with a two-game series against Team USA.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

By Mike Matejka Because of COVID, there is no Labor Day Parade this year.  It’s always a great event for our everyday workers to march proudly down the street and enjoys the festive crowd. If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
