WASHINGTON – Members of Congress are mostly back in their districts without a funding deal to battle the Zika virus threat.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) was among those making impassioned pleas before adjournment for President Obama’s emergency funding request.

“The mosquitoes are not going to be on recess next week. They’re going to be working,” said Durbin. “And sadly, they’re going to be infecting people across the south and across the United States while congressional leaders dither.”

Lawmakers remain divided on the best approach for funding the fight against the mosquito-borne virus, which has become a growing concern for expectant mothers across the globe.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
