BLOOMINGTON – The YWCA of McLean County is partnering with other local organizations again this year to take part in the One Billion Rising initiative.
The national campaign brings groups together to stand up against violence against women. The YWCA hosted event, which is open to the public, will be from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
“We’re inviting everybody to come and take part and dance a little bit,” said YWCA Director of Communications and Marketing Christy Germanis. “We’re going to do a little bit of Zumba, we’ll do some yoga and it’ll be a rise and a call to action.”
Germanis says this is the fourth year the YWCA has been involved with One Billion Rising. Different organizations will also be in attendance for residents to find out ways they can get involved in the community.
“Every year we keep gaining more and more traction and helping to raise awareness,” said Germanis. “As people become more aware of what we’re doing and what it’s all about, they come and join us and have their voices heard.”
Several local agencies, including Children’s Home + Aid, McLean County DVMDT, Mid Central Community Action and The Om Tribe, are helping the YWCA with the event.
