Wear Red Day promotes heart disease awareness

BLOOMINGTON – Friday is National Wear Red Day, the American Heart Association’s effort to raise awareness and money for heart disease in women.

Dr. Yogesh Agarwal with OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin, America is suffering from ‘sitting’ disease.

“There’s a benefit of just moderate exercise, even just standing,” Agarwal said. “They’ve compared people who sat most of the day versus stood for a few hours a day and they had half the risk of heart disease than those who sat for most of the day.”

The American Heart Association reports 1 in 3 women is affected by heart disease. OSF St. Joseph is promoting Wear Red Day through social media with #GoRedOSF.
