BLOOMINGTON – Beginning November 9th, Connect Transit will officially make the switch to a fixed route bussing system.

This means buses will now only pick up and drop off passengers at predetermined bus stop locations and transfer centers. General Manager Andrew Johnson said the switch will hopefully mean more buses will be on time.

“It helps us plan better, in terms of, we know how many times that bus might stop during its route and we can plan for that and build in time for it,” he said.

Johnson added there are also advantages for residents.

“There is no question as to where the bus is going to pick you up. There is no question as to where the bus is going to drop you off,” said Johnson. “There’s no anxiety there.”

Johnson explained there has been confusion in the past.

“It was really up to the driver to decide, ok if the passenger asks me to pick up here or drop off there, is it safe to do so? There wasn’t real consistency there,” Johnson said.

Stop locations will have a Connect Transit green sign and a secondary information sign. Connect Transit brought in a consultant to work with staff to find what they believe to be the best places to put the bus stops.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

By Mike Matejka Because of COVID, there is no Labor Day Parade this year.  It’s always a great event for our everyday workers to march proudly down the street and enjoys the festive crowd. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
