Ivo GreifIvo Greif

Dr. Ivo P. Greif, 93, of Normal, passed away at 10:15 p.m., Aug. 28 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.

His funeral will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal with Monsignor Eric Powell officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Ivo was born Oct. 1, 1921 in Worthington, Iowa, the son of Peter and Ida Lehmann Greif. He married Leona M. Svoboda on Dec. 27, 1961 in Omaha, Neb. She preceded him in death on March 22, 1998.

He is survived by two daughters, Suzanne (Scott) Robertson of Normal and Jennifer (Philip) Bolton of Bloomington and a son, Mark (James Dillman) Greif Benson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two grandchildren, Stephen Oross and Scott Robertson, both of Normal; two great grandchildren, Jozlynn and Jaelynn Robertson; two sisters, Ruth Rogers and Betty Jane (Larry) Guilford, both of Monticello, IA.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rita Butzow and Freda Greif and two brothers, Lambert Greif and Ivo Michael Greif in infancy.

Ivo was a WW II Veteran of the 8th Air Force, where he served as a flight engineer.

He received a PhD in Elementary Education at Wayne State University. Ivo was a retired professor, who taught at Wayne State University, Creighton University, Joliet Junior College and Illinois State University.

He was a member of the National Education Association, serving as past President and Chairman of the Board of their National Society of Professors. He was also past President of the Illinois Association of Higher Education, a member and past President of Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, a member and State Delegate of the Illinois Education Association, member and National Delegate of the National Education Association,

He was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church in Normal and the Bloomington Knights of Columbus, where he was a Fourth Degree Knight.

Ivo enjoyed collecting stamps, coins and humels.

Ivo made a beautiful and peaceful transition surrounded by his family and friends. A special thanks to Monsignor Eric Powell and Pastor Kevin Summers.

Lois HardestyLois Hardesty

Lois A. Hardesty, 71, of Normal, formerly of Danvers, died at 10:25 p.m. on Aug. 28 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington, with Rev. Ric Schneider officiating.   Inurnment will immediately follow services at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington.   Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.   Cremation rites will be accorded after visitation.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CISAR.  To express condolences online, please visit www.carmodyflynn.com.

She was born March 9, 1944 in Bloomington, daughter of Cecil and Mildred Warner Hill.  She married Harold L. Hardesty on Feb. 23, 1963 in Bloomington.  He preceded her in death on September 29, 2014.   She was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert.

Surviving are three sons, Bart (Lisa) Hardesty of Glen Ellyn, Brad Hardesty of San Francisco, Calif. and Brent Hardesty of Chicago; two grandchildren, Quinn and Katie Hardesty of Glen Ellyn.  Also surviving are two sisters, Carolyn McNeely and Joyce Thorpe.

She retired from Funks Seeds-GrowMark, where she worked as a registered seed technician.

Lois enjoyed spending her free time with family and friends, and she especially loved the time spent with her grandchildren.

John JamesJohn James

John James “Jim” Killoran, Jr, 74, of Bloomington, passed away at 3:55 a.m., Aug. 29 at Heritage Health in Normal.

 

His funeral Mass will be at Noon, Wednesday at St. Patrick Church of Merna in Bloomington with Monsignor Gregory Ketcham and Monsignor Douglas Hennessy officiating? A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at the Knights of Columbus in Bloomington immediately following the Mass. The family requests the visitation and burial be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Community Cancer Center or OSF Hospice.

Jim was born Oct. 23, 1940 in Bloomington, the son of John James and Anne Skipper Killoran. He married Ann Marie Cottone on Aug. 23, 1958 in Bloomington. She survives.

He is also survived by three children, Kathleen (Mark) Duff of Beverly Hills, Calif., Linda (Larry Jordan) Killoran of Alpharetta, Ga. and James (Tracy) Killoran of Suwanee, Ga.; four grandchildren, Andy Grant, Jacqueline Duff, Jack Killoran and Sam Killoran; a sister, Nancy (James) Mikel of Bloomington and Robert Kerr of Baldwin, Mo.; a special friend since age 2, Jack (Donna) Dearth of Carmel, Ind.; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Thomas Killoran and Donald Kerr.

Jim was born and raised in Bloomington and married his Trinity High School sweetheart. He worked at Paxton’s Typewriter, Inc. for many years. Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Bloomington for many years and previously served as a past Grand Knight.

Jim enjoyed life and people, loved a good time and had a great laugh. Because of this, he had many friends of all ages. Jim loved all sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. He also loved his pontoon boat and snowmobiling with special friends.

Jim will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

Robert Marr Jr.Robert Marr Jr.

Robert “Bob”  Marr Jr. age 87 passed away at 3:54 p.m. on Aug. 27 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

His memorial service will be 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. Rev. Danny McCubbins will be officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 PM-6:00 PM Wednesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, IL. Private inurnment will be at a later date Woodwreath Cemetery, New Berlin IL. The family suggests memorials be made to Martin Health Center or OSF Hospital. Bob was born June 29, 1928 in New Berlin, Ill. the son of Robert and Lula Mays Marr. He married  Kathlyn Marcela Fancher in 1951in Springfield, Ill. She passed away in 2010.

Bob is survived by three sons Dan, Flora, Ill., Brad, Solvang, Calif., and Jay, Glen Ellyn, IL in addition to one brother , Dixie, Springfield and one sister Jean, Springfield, IL three grandchildren, Angela Marr ( Jared)  West, Citrus Springs, Fla., Amanda Marr, Sydney New South Wales, Australia,Robert Marr, Glen Ellyn, Ill. and three great grandchildren, Mickayla, Kelsey and Joshua West, Citrus Springs, Fla.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Milburn and one sister Eva.

Bob graduated from Western Illinois University in 1950. He began a career in teaching first in Loami, Ill. and later New Berlin, where he also served as principal. In 1958 Bob and Kathlyn moved to Champaign where Bob began a career in pharmaceutical sales for Glaxo Smith Kline. Bob and Kathlyn raised their three sons in Champaign where they became “swim team” parents, loyal Illini fans and enjoyed family vacations. Bob moved into hospital administration in the 1970’s  at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.  In 1981 he moved to OSF St Joseph Hospital in Bloomington. where he enjoyed working until he retired in 1993. In retirement Bob worked for the Mc Lean County court while caring for Kathlyn. Bob loved spending time with his grand children, college sports and traveling the Midwest with Kathlyn.
