Dorothy L. Claus, 88, Normal, died on Aug. 21 in Normal.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at First United Methodist Church of Normal, with the Rev. Don Jones officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Kibler- Brady- Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington.

Interment will be in Park Hill Cemetery in Bloomington. Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army – Safe Harbor or the Normal Public Library.

Dorothy was born July 25, 1927, in Harvard, a daughter of Donald E. and Florence S. (Carlson) Lyles. She married John R. Claus on Aug. 18, 1951, at First United Methodist Church of Normal. He preceded her in death on January 6, 2009.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol (Robert Schmedake) Barnes-Schmedake, Ballwin, Mo., and Janet Claus, Normal; grandson, Eric Barnes, Ballwin; and sisters Constance (Roy) Schnebly and Marlys Lyles of Bloomington.

Dorothy earned her bachelor’s degree from Illinois State Normal University. She taught Home Economics at Princeton High School and Bloomington High School. After taking time off to start her family, she taught Child Development and directed the related laboratory pre-school for 3 and 4 year olds at Illinois Wesleyan University.

She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Normal for more than 60 years, including singing in the choir, serving funeral dinners, and working at the annual Attic Sale. She was an Emeritus Board Member of The Salvation Army; and a longtime member of the Family and Consumer Sciences Professionals of McLean County and the Friends of the Normal Public Library.

Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be dearly missed.

John HammondJohn Hammond

John H. “Jack” Hammond, 53, of Bloomington, passed away at 3:09 p.m., Aug. 25 at his home.

His funeral will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington with Rev. Jason Damkoehler officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home.

Jack was born April 29, 1962 in Normal, the son of Raymond E. and Rita Whalen Hammond, Sr. He married Christine A. Dickson on April 22, 1988 in Bloomington. She survives.

He is also survived by his mother, Rita Brenner of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a daughter, Dawn (Andrew) Getty of Normal; three brothers, Raymond (Nicki) Hammond, Jr of Bonita Springs, Fla., Eddie Hammond of Florida and Mark (Joanna) Hammond of Wheeling; two step-children, Teresa (Ron) Smith of Minier and Brett (Ashley) Dickson of El Paso; six grandchildren and two on the way.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Jeff Hammond.

Jack attended Bloomington High School and served in the United States Marine Corps.

Wanda Hebert Wanda Hebert

Wanda L. Hebert, 78, of Bloomington, passed away at 7:09 a.m. on Aug. 21 at her residence.

Her service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Bloomington with Pastor David Brown officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Inurnment will be at a later date at East Lawn Mausoleum in Bloomington. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Wanda was born on July 13, 1937 in Dalton, Missouri, a daughter of Herbert and Lillian Basey Pettigrew, Sr. She married John “Johnny” Hebert, Sr. He survives.

Also surviving is a son, John (Bettie) Hebert, Jr.; a brother, Ronald (Bonnie) Pettigrew; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Rodriquez Ray Hebert; two sisters, Norma Jean Pettigrew and Denise Pettigrew and a brother, Hebert Pettigrew, Jr.

Wanda was a graduate of Dalton Vocational High School. She moved to Bloomington where she worked for Modine Manufacturing and later as a counselor with the Children’s Foundation and The Center for Youth and Family Solutions working in several different capacities.

She was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she served as president of the church choir.
