Washington – Labeling food produced from genetically modified seeds would be voluntary under legislation passed by the U-S House.
Congressman Rodney Davis is chair of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Biotech, Horticulture, and Research and says GMO’s are safe. He says the labeling requirements match what is currently done for organic food.
“Absolutely no different,” said Davis. “Consumers need to know what is in their food supply and that’s exactly what this bill does so that consumers don’t have to pay more for groceries and they have access to what they want and need in their grocery stores.”
Critics say the labeling should be mandatory citing the consumers right to know.
